Domes are the focus of this week's Sepia Saturday. When I saw this I thought of the amazing cathedrals I saw in Spain & Portugal, Independence Hall in Philadelphia, beautiful Monticello in VA & the Biltmore in NC. I have visited & taken pictures of all these places. But then I thought of a dome that was not built by man, making it more beautiful because it is nature's beauty.

Clever twist! My husband visited Yosemite but I haven't. I would love to see it some day.

DeleteAh, Yosemite - my 'backyard'. And yes, it should be on everyone's 'bucket list'. It's huge & every part of it will take your breath away. I forgot about Independence Hall. I was there in '92, but it was the Old City Hall in the same complex that left a lasting impression on me. I accidentally fell into a marble fireplace there & gashed my arm open. An interesting albeit painful experience of which I still bear the scar. In order to try to ignore the pain after park officials bandaged me up, I strolled down to Penn's Landing & wound up taking a ferry across the Delaware River to tour a brand new aquarium just opened in Camden, N.J. So because of the injury, I wound up visiting one more state than everyone else! Funny - you just never know how things are going to work out.
ReplyDeleteI hope not all your trips are memorable in the same way. You are lucky to have Yosemite nearby. It is spectacular.

ReplyDeleteI wondered if anyone would use Half Dome this week, and you have. That certainly is on my list of things to see ... and hopefully in the not too distant future.

ReplyDeleteNatural domes may well be the original inspiration for the architectural ones. We visited Yosemite in 1986, but I doubt whether it has changed very much since then, or at least least I hope it hasn't!

ReplyDeleteI’ve never been to Yosemite, although I’ve seen TV programmes and documentaries about it. I would love to go.
ReplyDeleteMy husband & I were inspired to go there after watching Ken Burns' National Parks special. They are even better in person.
