World War II Marine: W H Fortenberry


These two newspaper articles & the World War II Draft Registration card give us a glimpse into the life & service of William H. Fortenberry. We can be proud of William and all of our family’s soldiers.

W. H. Fortenberry Is Made First Class Private in Marines

Somewhere in the Aleutians

 

Marine Private First Class William H. Fortenberry, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Fortenberry, Route 1, McComb, Miss., has been promoted to that rank from private. He attended Fernwood High School, Fernwood, Miss.

William Harrell [sic] Fortenberry, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. F. Fortenberry of McComb, was discharged from the Marine Corps at Camp Pendelton, Oceanside, Calif., June 6, and is now at home with his parents who reside at the McComb Homestead. William Harrell [sic] is a brother of Lucille Fortenberry of the billing department staff, Kay Ruth.
