Forget Me Not: Rev. N. E. Alford of Pike, MS

‘Funeral Rites Set for Aged Pastor’

"The Rev. N. E. Alford, 91, Dies After Automobile Accident

McComb, Miss. July. Funeral services will be held Thursday for the Rev. N. E. Alford, 91 years old, Methodist minister. The death leaves Joe Berryhill, Magnolia, Pike County’s only surviving Confederate veteran. He died at a local hospital this morning of shock resulting from an automobile accident near Kentwood, La., late yesterday. Mr. Alford, active despite his great age, had been to Baton Rouge for a visit and was enroute home when the car driven by his son, B. P. Alford, went off the highway out of control. Miss Annie Alford of Kansas City received a broken arm, and other members of the party, Mrs. B. Alford and Mrs. Ralph Crisco of Kosciusko, Mississippi were bruised. Mr. Alford and his daughter were brought to a local hospital where the father died this morning. Miss Alford was reported doing well.

A member of one of Pike County’s prominent families, the Rev. Alford was born here and lived his entire life in this section. Surviving him are seven sons, four of whom are ministers: The Rev. J. M. Alford, Monroe La.; the Rev. C. W. Alford, Webster Florida; the Rev. L. L. Alford, Istrouma, La.; B. P. Alford, Holmesville; H. J. and Lucious H. Allford, San Antonio, Tex.; two daughters: Miss Annie Alford, Kansas City, and Mrs. R. T. Hollingsworth, Tutwiler, Miss., and one sister, Mrs. Laura Burch, McComb. The funeral services will be conducted at Holmesville church Thursday afternoon at 3 o’clock, the Rev. H. Saunders, Osyka, and Dr. J. Mayfield, McComb, officiating."
