Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Alford [Andrew Jackson Alford] celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary Sunday, December 10, at their home near Progress with approximately two hundred relatives and friends from Mississippi and Louisiana were present for the basket dinner on the lawn. It was a pleasurable reunion of friends and family from New Orleans, Columbia, McComb, and points between, who attended the gathering and registered in the guest book and wished the popular couple health and happiness.
Among those present were Mr. Murray Schilling, Mrs. Dora Reedy, Mrs. Lizzie Ellzey, Mrs. J. Ryals, Mrs. Betty Burch, Mrs. Lamender Alford, sister of Mrs. Alford, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Alford, Mr. and Mrs. Fletcher Alford and family, Miss Molly Ellzey, and many others.
Mr. and Mrs. Alford, affectionately known to many as Uncle Andrew and Aunt Jane, were married in the home of the bride in 1889.
Mrs. Alford, looking especially lovely in a printed silk dress with lace collar, laughingly recalled the honeymoon they spent in New Orleans. Their first home was near Mt. Herman, La. Since then they have lived in various parts of Mississippi, Louisiana and the Rio Grande Valley of Texas.
Many tokens of affection were presented to the happy couple.
