CT Research Trip: Old St Mary’s Cemetery

Before going to CT to do research on the Brady family my cousin, Pat, investigated cemeteries. We wanted to visit Mt St Peter Cemetery at 219 New Haven Ave., Derby & Pine Grove at 15 Church Street, Ansonia. We also wanted to visit St Mary’s Cemetery, near Pine Grove Cemetery.

When we visited the Ansonia Library & looked through the City Directories we found Mary McGovern Brady’s death date. At the Ansonia City Hall we used that date to get a copy of her death certificate. The death certificate said she was buried in St Mary’s Cemetery. We wondered if any of her children were buried there as well.

Old St. Mary's Cemetery

St Mary’s is a very small cemetery and it was easy for us to walk & look at the stones and find the Brady marker. At first we thought it might be an unrelated Brady family. We snapped photos anyway. Later we looked at our family records we saw that the names on the stone match our Mary Brady and her children. There is no office and no records for this tiny cemetery but because of the death certificate we believe we found our family.

We will continue to search for death records and obituaries for extra confirmation that these are our cousins.
