 This studio photograph is wonderful. I believe it was taken for Kathleen's First Holy Communion. She is holding a prayer book in one hand and flowers in the other. Her lacy dress is topped off with flowers in her hair. 

My great aunt's birthday is coming soon, on Halloween. The family called her 'Billie.' She had an independent spirit. She lived to be 91, outliving her siblings and her niece (my mom).  She was a private person and shared limited family stories. 

I like this photo of her as a young girl. I wish I could step into this photo and talk to her.

CRESTON – Albert R. Morrison, 82, died Thursday at the Wayne County Hospital.

 

 He had lived in the Creston – Rittman area all of his life and had been employed at the Packing Corporation of America. He had operated a garage in Rittman. He was a member of the Rotary Club in Rittman.

 

He is survived by daughter, Mrs. J. Helen Kauffman, of Creston; son, Edward, of Brunswick; sister, Mrs. Pauline Maurer, of Wadsworth.

 

Funeral services Sunday 2 p. m. at the Murray Funeral Home, Creston. Burial Canaan Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p. m.

A wedding of interest to friends and acquaintances of the bride in Pike county occurred when Miss Pearl Gardner Brumfield, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Brumfield of near Magnolia, Miss., became the bride of Dr. Thomas E. Stout, both of Pascogoula. The impressive ring ceremony was performed by the Rev. E. S. Lewis at the Methodist Church of Pascogoula, at 11:30, Tuesday morning, May 12^th.

 

Dr. Stout is the son of Mr. and Mrs. T. C. Stout of Pascogoula, a graduate of the High School of the class of 1926, and of the Loyola University College of Dentistry, of New Orleans, class of 1932. Since his graduation he has practiced his profession in Pascogoula and has become identified with the business and social life of the city.

 

The bride, a beautiful and charming young woman, graduated from Mississippi Woman’s College in Hattiesburg in 1929 with a B. A. Degree. She has lived in Pascogoula the past several years, where she was connected with the store of Brumfield’s Inc., and by her pleasing personality has won hundreds of friends. 

 

Immediately after the ceremony Dr. and Mrs. Stout left on a short trip to New Orleans, Brookhaven and Magnolia, and are now at home at 240 Orange Street.

Dinosaurs! Jonas Studios & Family Connection, 1964 NY

 Louis Paul Jonas, 1895 - 1971, was an American sculptor. He built full sized dinosaurs for the Dinoland exhibit at the 1964 World's Fair. His studio was in Hudson, Columbia County, New York.

How does this connect to our family?

First,

In 1964 the dinosaurs were set in a rural area north of Hudson where final assembly was done. My paternal grandmother's family came to visit us in NY. My great grandfather, Thomas Kenneth Mark, two of his daughters and his son - in - law, came to visit our family in Columbia County. His daughter, Ivy Regina Mark Brown was happy to have her family visit all of us. We gathered together to talk, eat and laugh. And the family saw the huge dinosaurs.

Second,

I was a Brownie Girl Scout at that time. Our local scouts had no summer camp location but Jonas let us use his land for two weeks of summer  fun. I was a camper in 'Camp Jonas.' We learned outdoor skills and we were allowed to see all the dinosaurs. 

Once the dinosaurs were moved to new York City and the World's Fair opened, our parents took my brothers and I to the fair. The Dinoland exhibit was sponsored by Sinclair Oil Company. Of course, I had already seen the huge creations. 

Vintage Photograph, 1930 OH, Mark Family

 This vintage photograph is terrific. We get a peek at the farm, the car and the family in Ohio. Looking at little Wava, b 1919, can help to date this. Maybe it was late 1920s or early 1930s. It looks casual, with Owen sitting on the car but the brothers are wearing ties. I guess it was a Sunday morning with them dressed for church. 

Three sisters are not in the photograph: Isabel Esther Mark Nee m 1922, Vera Mark Ballard m 1933 and Ivy Mark Brown m 1927. Did one of those sisters take the photo?

Wadsworth – Mrs. Lena B. Swagler, 80, of 133 E. Prospect st. died Tuesday in Municipal Hospital.

 

She was a native of Medina County who lived in Wadsworth 15 years.

 

She leaves three sons, Harold of Coshocton, Cleal of Kent and Paul of Seville; eight grandchildren; nine great – grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Mona Hurd in Michigan, and Mrs. Pauline Maurer of Akron, and two brothers, Albert Morrison, in Florida and Clifford Morrison of Barberton.

 

Services will be at 2 p. m. Saturday in the Hillard Funeral Home, the Rev. J. Theodore Bucher officiating with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home.
