Evidence of Richard Dillon in Bertie Co., North Carolina


Richard Dillon 1745 VA – 1833 MS
Son of James Theopilous & Mary Dillon

Even though Richard Dillon, my 5th great grandfather, was born in Virginia and died in Mississippi, he spent considerable time in Bertie Co., North Carolina as evidenced by these records.


Court Records involving Richard Dillon



1759. “Richd. Dillon son of James Theophilus Dillon is ordered to be bound as an apprentice to Christopher Harrison until he arrive [sic] at the age of Twenty One years being now about the age of Twelve years and to be Taught the Business of a Cooper &c.”

“On Motion Ordered that Jonathan Miller have leave to administer on the Estate of Jonathan Miller deceased on giving Security in the sum of one thousand pounds, which is accordingly given by John Oxley and Richard Dillon.”

Aug 1785. “A Deed of Sale of Land from Rich. Dillon & Ann Dillon to Benj. Terlington was proved in open court in due form of law by the Oath of John Wolfenden one of the subscribing Witnesses and ordered to be registered.” Source: Haun, Weynette Parks.  Nov 1789. “A Deed of Sale of Land from Rich. Dillon & Ann Dillon to Andrew Stanton was acknowledged in open court in due form of law by the said Richard Dillon and ordered to be registered.” Haun, Weynette Parks. By 1810 Richard Dillon was living in Mississippi where he died & was buried.

  3. While looking for causes of death for James Theophilus Dillon and James Sr. Cause of death, i stumbled here.

    Hi! Im one of your southern cousins. Plenty of Dillons in Vicksburg Mississippi. I personally dont live there but there are quite a few still there.

  4. Hello, I am a descendant of Jonathan Miller. I came across this today while searching data. Can you please tell me more about this excerpt--where is it from, why were Oxley and Dillon ordered to give Jonathan Miller (son of deceased father, Jonathan Miller) a thousand dollars?
