Tranquil Tombstone: Poisoned!

“This monument is erected by the
Citizens of Berlin in Memory
Of Mary Ann Wyatt, wife of
Henry G. Green, who was
Married Feb 9, 1845, and on the
14th day of the same month
Was poisoned by her husband
With arsenic without any real
Or pretended cause.
Beautiful, intelligent and
Virtuous, she was wept over by
Community & the violated
Law justly exacted the life
Of the murderer as a penalty
For his crime."

Mary A W Green
Died Feb 17 1845
In the 23 Year of Her Life
7th Day Baptist Cemetery, Berlin, New York

I came across this tombstone while walking a cemetery for Find A Grave.

  1. That's certainly an interesting find. But being practical, I just have to wonder how expensive that tombstone had to have been!

  2. Wow, very sad that her husband took her life . . . let it be known what her husband did forever in stone!

  3. "without any real or pretended cause"? That's crazy... It's so sad she died 5 days after her wedding.
