Anniversary: Coyle & Brady, 1870 County Cavan, Ireland

In 2012 I took a trip to Ireland. My daughter and I traveled around the island, looking for our roots along the way. We found Saint Mary's church in Carrick, County Cavan where my 2x great grandparents were married. It was very exciting to me to stand in the church where Patrick & Margaret had exchanged marriage vows.

My Irish Roots

 My Irish Surnames:

My Irish roots are mostly connected to my maternal grandmother's family. My Nana was born in New York City but her parents were from Ireland. Her father, Michael Coyle, would open all their New York City's apartment's windows on St. Patrick's Day. He would play Irish songs on the piano and sing loudly. His wife would complain of the noise. He would say he wanted everyone to know they were Irish! I cannot play a piano and my singing is not good but I do share Michael's thoughts. I do want everyone to know I am Irish!

March is time for Irish families & stories. I have Irish ancestors on both sides of my family but mainly from my maternal grandmother, Helen F. Coyle Gardner.

In April 2012 I was able to visit County Cavan, Ireland where my 2x great grandparents lived and were married. With St. Patrick's Day coming, it seems a good time to repost my photos.

My Irish Roots

 

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

I love this holiday. Why? Because I have strong Irish roots, especially through my maternal side. My mother's mother was Helen F. Coyle Gardner. Her parents came from Ireland to New York City in the late 1880s. And I like this holiday because it is my birthday. Yes, those parades and the green beer are for me!

Eileen Brady Winston, 78, of Leisure Village West, Manchester Township, died Monday, July 19, at the Rex Convalescent Center, Raleigh, N. C. She was a fashion model many years ago. She graduated from East Orange High School in 1932. Mrs. Winston was born in East Orange and lived in Queens and Westchester County, N. Y., for many years, retiring to Leisure Village West in 1975.

Surviving are her husband, Mike; a son, Ronald, Raleigh, N. C.; a daughter, Nancy Agen, Utica, N. Y.; and six grandchildren. Madison Memorial Home, Madison, was in charge of arrangements.

Anna Damush Brady, 75, teacher, concert violinist. Pine Beach - Anna Josephine Damush Brady, a teacher and concert violinist, died yesterday at home. She was 75.

Mrs. Brady was a teacher with Berkeley Township School district. She attended the Philadelphia Musical Academy, the University of Pennsylvania, earned an associate degree from Ocean County College, Dover Township, in 1973, and her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Gerogian Court College, Lakewood.

In addition to being with the Garden State Philharmonic for 32 years, she also was a violinist with the Crestwood Symphony Orchestra, Whiting, Manchester Township.

She was a communicant of St. Barnabas Roman Catholic Church, Bayville, Berkeley Township. Born in Shenandoah, Pa., she moved to Pine Beach in 1963.

Her husband, John L., died in 1977.

Surviving are four sons, John, Philadelphia, Senan, Rochester, N.Y., David, Newport, R. I., and Mark, Pine Beach; five daughters, Marian and Anna Brady of New York; Moria Brady, North Hatfield, Mass., Siobhan Brady, Philadelphia, and Brigitta Brady, Roanoke, N. C., a brother, Joseph George Damush, Laguna Beach, Calif.; two sisters, Elizabeth Marian Morlock, Jacksonville, Fla., and Margaret Antionette Markowski, Pennsylvania; and seven grandchildren.

Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, Toms River, is in charge or arrangements.

John Brady. Trappe – John Joseph Brady of Trappe died Saturday, Dec. 7, 1991 at his home. He was 69. Born May 24, 1922 in East Orange, N. J., Mr. Brady is the son of the late Thomas J. and Eileen Banks Brady. He attended St. Benedict’s High School and Seton Hall University. During World War II, he served in the U. S. Army in the European Theatre of Operations. 

A resident of Talbot County since 1960, he was a former president of the Standard Fusee Corporation in Easton, a past president of the National Pyrotechnics Association, a past member of the National Motor Carrier Advisory Committee, the past president of the Talbot County United Fund, a past president of the Memorial Hospital Association, a past member of the Board of Directors of Memorial Hospital at Easton, a past president of the Talbot Country Club and a member of the Chesapeake Bay Yacht Club and the Tred Avon Yacht Club. He was also a longtime member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Easton.

Mr. Brady is survived by his wife, the former, Carlyle Purcell, three sons, Edward P. Brady of Annapolis, John J. Brady, Jr. of Charleston, W. Va., and Capt. Kevin M. Brady, USMC, of Havelock, N. C.; two daughters Sharon B. Raimo of Washington, D. C. and Carlyle Brady of Oxford; a brother, William R. Brady of Brielle, N. J. and eight grandchildren.

Services will be held 11 a. m. Thursday at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Easton. Burial will be in the Oxford Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 7 to 8 p. m. at the Newman Funeral Home in Easton where prayers will be said at 8 p. m.

Memorial donations may be made to the Memorial Hospital Foundation, P. O. Box 1846, Easton or to the Talbot Hospice Foundation, 100 S. Hanson St., Easton, Md. 21601.

Mrs. Jack B. Thompson. Milford, Dec 3. – Services for Mrs. Catherine C. Thompson, 71, of 50 Park avenue, Wildemere beach, wife of Jack B. Thompson, who died today after a long illness in her home, will take place Monday at 8:30 a. m. in the Smith funeral home. 135 Broad street, and at 9 o’clock in St. Gabriel’s church where a solemn high Mass of requiem will be celebrated. Burial will be in Milford cemetery.

A native of Derby, Mrs. Thompson had resided 40 years in Milford. She was a member of the Maccabees society.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Mrs. F. Douglas Coby, and a grandson, Frank Douglas Coby of Milford; a brother, James L. Kilday of New Haven and a sister, Miss Frances Kilday, New York city.
